I was disappointed with the visit until we went into the main castle, which looked like it hadn't been inhabited since Henry VIII. It was spartan, with no real furniture except in a few display rooms, but the perk of this was that we were absolutely allowed to visit every room. It was a labryinth with great curling staircases, galleries, and cold stone walls. It was fabulous.
